US & Asia Braced for Storms

A super typhoon is building in the Pacific and is forecast to impact the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South China during the next few days.
Typhoon Mangkhut, named after a fruit in Thailand, is forecast to hit the Philippines on Wednesday, with winds expected to rise to over 140 miles per hour. Mangkut is then due to head North and arrive at Hong Kong and China by the end of the weekend.
Mangkhut is expected to be the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year and is seriously threatening farmlands in the region ahead of the rice and corn harvest.
Meanwhile, the US has its own hurricane warning this week, as Hurricane Florence is expected to disrupt North and South Carolina late on Thursday.
Florence is currently a category four storm with winds of up to 130mph, but is gathering strength in the Atlantic. President Trump has been warning residents to be prepared and has tweeted that this could be ‘one of the worst storms to hit the East Coast in many years’.
