Uniserve Sea Freight General Manager – Scott Baker – recently led a BIFA (British International Freight Association) delegation on a tour around DP World London Gateway Port.

Scott chairs BIFA’s London East region and after being met by DP World’s UK Chief Executive – Chris Lewis – the delegates were shown around the facility and experienced the port operations associated with one of today’s 20,000 TEU megaships.  

In the afternoon, the members got down to the serious business of an agenda led meeting regarding Brexit, CHIEF migration to the new CDS system and the current port and container transport issues, which are being felt by the whole industry right now.

Congestion at the UK’s two largest container ports continues to disrupt supply chains during the busiest time of year for retailers.

The delays started at Felixstowe earlier in the year, when the introduction of a new operating system slowed the port down to around 50% of capacity, which eventually resulted in major delays at Southampton too.
