More than 180 students from across Hull and East Yorkshire explored careers in logistics and supply chain at the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Logistics Outreach Day near Beverley.

Generation Logistics partnered with the MOD to deliver the event, which welcomed students from 10 local schools. Participating schools included St Mary’s College, Hull Trinity House Academy, Bridlington School and Driffield School and Sixth Form. The day challenged perceptions of the logistics sector and highlighted the innovation, technology and career opportunities shaping the industry’s future.

Hands-On Logistics Experiences

Uniserve colleagues joined teams from Seafast and the Supply Chain Academy to showcase the wide range of opportunities within modern logistics.

Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of interactive activities. These included a remote-controlled forklift challenge, logistics quizzes, LNG truck tours, driving simulators and a Scalextric challenge. As a result, students gained practical insight into logistics operations and the industry’s vital role in keeping supply chains moving.

In addition, the activities helped students understand how technology and innovation continue to transform the sector. For many students, the hands-on experiences offered their first real exposure to the world of logistics.

Career Pathways and Apprenticeships

Throughout the event, colleagues who completed the Supply Chain Academy’s Level 3 Diploma and Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship programmes shared their personal career journeys.

Their experiences helped students understand the many career routes available across transport, warehousing, technology and supply chain management. They also showed how apprenticeships can support long-term professional development and create rewarding career opportunities.
