The Old Man and The Sea

In the week that Steve started with Uniserve, the Beatles were in the charts with Yellow Submarine, Prime Minister Harold Wilson was trying to negotiate peace in Vietnam and England had just won the World Cup at Wembley.
Or that’s how it seems! Steve is actually celebrating his 30th anniversary at Uniserve this week, after joining our team way back in 1988 and playing a pivotal role in our sea freight development ever since.

To mark the special occasion, we talked to a number of key personnel around the business and asked them to share their favourite memories of Steve’s time with the company over the past 30 years. Starting with Group MD Iain Liddell, who founded Uniserve in 1984. Iain replied “Sorry… Steve who?”
HR Director – Paul Stone commented “Steve Ireland? I don’t recognise that name from our payroll”, while Airfreight Director Leighton Bonnett recalled a Steve Ireland working in our Dublin office but couldn’t be sure.
We received a more positive reaction from Commercial Director Gary Cobbing, who said “Yes Steve is a great guy and he always greets me with a smile in the morning. He is a man that certainly knows how to deliver and has served the company well for 30 years”. Gary later called us to explain that he thought we were referring to his postman – Steve Highland.

In all seriousness, Steve has been a great asset to the company and is an integral part of its history. We are sure you will join us in congratulating him on such a marvellous milestone. To do so, please feel free to email si@ugroup.co.uk.
