Hong Kong air freight facing further Covid disruption

It is being reported that the disruptions at Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) due to Covid-related staff shortages may have wider implications and cause further issues at the Far East air hub. Earlier this month services at Hactl’s Super Terminal One were impacted due to the necessary response to a staff member testing positive for Covid-19.
However, sources in Hong Kong are now indicating that Emirates’ freighter schedule for the week commencing 18th October has been changed or cancelled due to a lack of staff at Hactl. We anticipate that other airlines could follow suit, with resultant capacity issues to hit within the next couple of weeks. Currently UK shipments are still experiencing a reasonable dwell time at Hong Kong and it remains to be seen how far-reaching the staffing issues will impact air freight customers.
