Diwali, Festival of Lights

by | Oct 12, 2017

We are fast approaching the Diwali (or Deepavali) festival season, which will mean a public holiday in some Uniserve Group global locations during the next week.

Diwali is otherwise known as the festival of lights, and is celebrated every year by the Hindu religion with a holiday in India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal and Singapore, amongst others.

The festival signifies the victory of light over dark, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. Traditionally, houses, buildings, streets and temples are decorated with millions of lights during the celebration.

The date of the holiday varies considerably from region to region, which is demonstrated by the Indian dates below:

India – Diwali Public Holiday Dates by Region 2017

Wednesday 18th October: Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata

Thursday 19th October: Hyderabad, Mumbai, Gandhidham, Delhi.

**Friday 19th October Gandhidham also closed for Gujarati New Year
