Uniserve sponsored para-table tennis player – David Wetherill – won European gold and bronze medals recently, just a month after undergoing heart surgery to replace a pacemaker.

The three-time Paralympian astonishingly won team gold and class six singles bronze, which we hope will all-but guarantee him a place at the Tokyo Paralympics next year.

Uniserve have been sponsoring David since before the London games in 2012, where David became an internet sensation and accumulated over 6.5 million views on youtube for his staggering ‘shot of the tournament’.  If you have not seen the shot then you are in for a treat, as you can watch the clip below.

David commented on the surgery “I needed to semi-urgently go in and get the pacemaker replaced. It wasn’t too serious, it was a pretty routine thing but it came at a bad time,”

“We were trying to put it off until after Tokyo, but the doctors and surgeons said it needed to be done. But it’s a nice relief to get it done and focus on next year now.”

With the operation behind him, David can focus solely on what will be his fourth Paralympic Games.

“I’ve won European medals, I’ve won World Championship medals, but I still haven’t got the Paralympic one. So that’s the one missing at the moment and fingers crossed I can rectify that next year.” he added.
