COVID-19: Repercussions of swift re-openings

The prevention measures adopted in capping the widespread of the virus are beginning to show promising signs, as infection and death toll statistics begin to slow, giving hope in reaching the turning point of the COVID-19 epidemic.
This week the Chinese Government has relaxed some of the travel restrictions, enabling employee capacities to increase in some industry sectors. A significant 50% increase in trucking employee capacities could be seen by the end of the week.
The repercussions of swift re-openings before reaching the peak of the epidemic are the additional charges which accompany some of the services that become available. There are reports of a 50% price increase by some trucking companies who have re-opened under dangerous conditions, compensating working drivers who are exposed to a risk of infection.
As freight demands spike, inevitably we will see a short-term price increase until the market stabilizes.
Most airports and seaports in mainland China and Hongkong are operating, however passenger & freight capacity is still severely reduced. Providing that the spread of the epidemic reaches its turning point, airfreight is predicted to see the first peak in demand with some factories now starting to release orders. The market is anticipating that volumes will start to increase significantly from early to middle March and onwards. Sea freight will follow shortly after, with both modes running at full capacity to fulfil market demand.
