China Partner Meeting Focuses On Rail

Uniserve Group’s Sea freight Director – Steve Ireland – met with senior representatives of THI Group, our Chinese ocean freight partners, last week to discuss our combined Asian rail freight strategy.

The need for rail freight services from Asia is becoming more apparent in the build up to IMO2020. The incoming regulations have called for reduced fuel emissions, which has continued to impact ocean freight transit times as vessels have needed to slow down.
Rail freight from China to Europe has been on the rise recently, with the value of product moving on the ‘silk road route’ growing by 106% in the past seven years and the number of journeys made by freight trains now in excess of 2,000 per year.
It’s not just Westbound cargo that has been increasing, as rail freight exports from Europe to China have increased by 44% in the same period.
Steve commented “Uniserve focus heavily on ‘demand driven logistics’, which means we take an in depth view of each supply chain and match the right service to suit each and every product”.
“Providing effective rail options to and from Asia, that compliment our air, ocean and sea/air capabilities, has enabled us to develop this service further”.
“The discussions with THI were very positive and it was great to reestablish that both partners are on the same wavelength when it comes to our future rail strategy”.
