Brexit Simplified Customs Announced

Feb 6, 2019 | Brexit

On the 29th March 2019, if the UK leaves the EU without a deal, large numbers of UK businesses have been expected to work apply the same procedures to EU shipments that exist when trading with the rest of the world.

At the present time, under import processes for trading with countries outside the EU, goods are not discharged from customs control until you make a full import declaration and pay the duty owed in full.

However, HMRC have now issued transitional simplified procedures to make it easier for the import of goods from the EU using roll on roll off locations. It will be possible to register for these procedures from 7th February, although further clarification and updates are expected from HMRC soon.

You will not need to register for transitional simplified procedures, if you do not want to use them. However, we recommend speaking to your Uniserve representative, regarding your customs formalities in the event of a no deal Brexit.
