Australian Security Measures Introduced

Feb 5, 2019 | News

The Australian government is introducing new air cargo security measures from next month which will be effective for all outbound cargo to worldwide destinations.

From 1st March 2019 all cargo:

  • must be examined at piece level by a regulated agent.
  • must originate from a known consignor, through their approved and secure origin procedures.
  • must travel under a valid cargo security declaration.

The new security regulations effectively extend the current arrangements on cargo bound for the USA to all global locations.

The implications for exporters and importers are potential delays in departure for security checks, the potential for an increase in security costs and the potential need for new packing arrangements, for example cargo shrink wrapped on to the same pallet will now have to be made up of the same commodity.
