China Factory Closures

Factories throughout China are preparing for shut down during the country’s National Holiday next week, but many have already been forced to close by government officials enforcing anti-pollution regulations.
Northern China has seen thousands of businesses shut down over recent months following a series of inspections by the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), with Guangzhou and Southern China expected to be the next area scrutinised.
The enforcement drive follows regulations that were outlined in China’s 2013 action plan as it strives to meet air quality targets and reduce soil and water contamination.
Overseas trade has been affected, with numerous international customers forced into making alternative arrangements and often sourcing from other parts of Asia.
Steve Ireland, Uniserve Sea-Freight Director commented “The closures have mainly impacted ocean freight, as the majority of the products affected are lower value or bulk commodities.”
“Through our Asian based Global Trade Management team, we have been able to assist a number of customers during this process and I expect their expertise to be called upon more and more as the inspections reportedly move South”
Utilising our internally developed highly sophisticated One World platform, Uniserve can provide a number of product sourcing support services for businesses having difficulties during the anti-pollution drive.
