Hapag And UASC Complete

In a joint announcement today, Hapag Lloyd and UASC (United Arab Shipping Company) have confirmed that their much anticipated merger, to be one combined company, has completed.
For the immediate future the two companies will continue to operate independently as they work to integrate their internal systems and processes, with the first UASC services transferring to Hapag Lloyd from mid-July.
The announcement, signed by the CEO’s and CCO’s of both companies advised that this is a major milestone in their histories and that this would make the new company one of the top five global carriers, now with greater focus in the Middle East.
Uniserve Seafreight Director Steve Ireland commented “We believe this will be a positive step for the companies and the trade. After last years issues, any pooling of resource that makes steamship lines more stable and efficient must be a good thing.”
