Far East Air Demand Update

Following on from our update in September regarding airfreight from HKG and China, demand has increased due to further electronic product launches and an up turn in retail volumes for end of year sale.

The Hong Kong Civil Aviation Authority has enforced the anticipated passenger flight reductions, pending the implementation of the new air traffic control system, meaning any additional flights have been limited. Southern and Eastern China are also seeing similar upturns in demand.

Whilst major backlogs are yet to fully materialise, the pressure on capacity is driving ad hoc rate increases, with pricing rising up to 30% on July and August levels.

The situation is expected to continue into November with further price increases likely.

Our airfreight staff are working extremely hard to manage this situation for our clients and to ensure we maintain customer service levels through this difficult period. We will advise of any developments but should you require further information then please contact your local Uniserve representative.
