New Typhoon Could Shut Hong Kong This Week

Reports are coming in that Hong Kong may be set to endure another tropical cyclone this week, possibly as early as tomorrow (Tuesday 12th October). Typhoon Kompasu is set to pass within 800km of the region, just days after Typhoon Lionrock lashed the South China Sea causing extensive disruption at the weekend.
Hong Kong Observatory are expected to raise the Typhoon Signal 3 warning today, with the potential for this to rise Signal 8 (the third highest in terms of typhoon impact / intensity) on Tuesday evening. However, the Observatory’s director said: “We cannot commit now, [as] the northeast monsoon could actually push Kompasu further away from Hong Kong and weaken the winds.”
Naturally any enforced shut down of freight operations in Hong Kong due to the storm could impact already beleaguered supply chains out of the region.
Uniserve is monitoring the situation constantly. However, we encourage you to contact your Customer Development Manager should you have any concerns.
