China tightens restrictions due to Delta variant
The Delta variant of Covid-19 has started to appear in several regions of China, with a small number of cases arising in eastern parts of the country – including the cities of Nanjing, Hangzhou and Shanghai.
Thousands of people have been tested on 2nd August in the area around Shanghai’s Pudong Airport, and although no cases were found on that occasion – the government has tightened restriction on movement between cities. They have also strengthened testing and quarantine rules.
Workers at airports and ports are required to test regularly, and this is affecting the usual level of productivity. Flight numbers are being restricted, while tighter testing and movement controls are starting to affect the whole country. It is likely that the restrictions on movement of cargo and workers will disrupt movements in to the UK, Europe and Americas. It is also likely to push up already high transport costs.
The fast action of the Government should help to contain any spread, but we should expect some disruption in the short term. We will keep customers updated as the situation evolves.
If you would like to discuss any concerns, please contact the UniAir team via your usual operational contact, or via our commercial team at airquote@ugroup.co.uk.
