UPDATE: Ever Given to leave Suez Canal
The now notorious Ever Given looks like it will finally continue its journey to Rotterdam on Wednesday, as the owners and Suez Canal Authority strike a compensation deal.
The embattled container ship is now due to set sail on Wednesday 7th July, and is expected to arrive at the Dutch port on 16-17th July.
The Ever Given – which ran aground on 23rd March and blocked the canal for six days – has been impounded in the Great Bitter Lake ever since, while the SCA sought compensation from Shoei Kisen Kaisha, who own the ship.
Although details of the settlement have not been announced, it’s alleged that the owners and UK Club – the vessel’s insurers – have offered to pay around $150m.
