OCEAN FREIGHT ALERT: Port of Yantian restricts services after Covid outbreak

The Chinese port of Yantian is imposing a series of restrictions on the container throughput of its terminal as authorities respond to a Covid-19 outbreak that has included some port personnel.
On May 25th the Shenzen Municipal Health Commission reported nine cases of Covid-19, including an unspecified number of employees at Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT). YICT personnel are now undergoing mandatory testing to help limit any further spread of the pandemic across the port area.
In response, operations are understood to have been suspended in a number of port areas for cleaning and disinfection, leading to inevitable increases in storage density and the reductions in terminal efficiency.
To manage the situation, YICT has adopted the following measures:
- During the period from 22:00 on 25th May to 23:59 on 27th May, export FCL containers will not be accepted; however, during this period, import FCL containers and empty containers will be subject to normal handling.
- From 00:00 on 28th May to 3rd June, the acceptance of FCL containers will resume, but only when the receiving vessel is ETA-4 (that is, within four days before the expected arrival date of the ship).
The reduction in services at the Chinese port will inevitably impact on vessel berthing, container release and loading / discharging operations. Uniserve will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available. Customers concerned their cargoes may be impacted should contact their Customer Development Manager for updates.
