COVID-19: Closures & lock-downs -absolute necessity to prevent a global health disaster
As COVID-19 continues to challenge the world’s science, politics and economy, the inevitable effects on global supply chains are beginning to show.
Last night Jaguar Land Rover announced it will run out of parts in just two weeks. The company has attempted to fly in parts in suitcases as manufacturing shut downs continue across China. Companies of the likes of Apple and JCB have made similar announcements stating that the shortages of components from Chinese manufacturers will have a significant impact on production and thus the commercial availability of finished goods in the very near future.
Uniserves’ infographic explains the challenges ahead focusing on the logistics of global supply chains as the situation develops. Shut downs and restrictions across the country are not only effecting production but also all points of logistics where staff are either on lock down or businesses have not fully returned to operations.
The coronavirus epidemic topped benchmarks on Tuesday according to numbers from Chinese officials. The death toll of the virus has reached beyond 2,000 whilst the number of infected has risen above 75,000.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) are encouraged by the actions taken in China in preventing and containing the epidemic, seeing business closures and lock downs as an absolute necessity to prevent a global health disaster. The WHO also continue to advise against any restrictions of international traffic and trade, keeping trade afloat as much as possible under the given circumstances.
Many of our customers have stared to approach us asking for capacity and pricing. We would encourage anyone anticipating a greater requirement for air or sea freight in the coming weeks to share their forecasts with us so we can help you find a solution.
