Transport Strike In Bangladesh
Logistics in Bangladesh continue to be on a go-slow following a 48-hour transport strike, which may impact upon international movements over the next few days.
Transport professionals took to the streets this week to demand amendments to a recently passed Road Transport Act, which led to more major disruption to life and logistics in Bangladesh.
The country has been no stranger to delays over the past 18 months:
- 3 Months Ago: Following blockades around the airport roads, we advised there were major air cargo delays and backlogs, as vehicles were unable to enter the airport cargo centre.
- 12 Months Ago: We confirmed that the country was suffering major port congestion due to poor infrastructure, which resulted in ongoing delays of both ocean and airfreight shipments.
- 15 Months Ago: Concerns over terror attacks resulted in the EU imposing heavy security restrictions on cargo moving out of their airports, which resulted in further delays. The restrictions were expected to be uplifted after 2 to 3 weeks but stayed in place for a further 7 months.
- 18 Months Ago: Another national transport strike brought the country to a standstill for a week, after a bus driver was sentenced to life for an accident.
