The truck strike in India, which had been running for eight consecutive days, has now been called off after the Indian government agreed to meet the majority of the demands of the truckers.

Drivers across India took indefinite strike action from 20th July to protest against the ongoing increases in diesel prices, uncontrollable toll expenses, GST compliance and a number of further issues.

The strike has heavily impacted supply from India. For example – Many edible oil refineries have been closed due to low supplies of crude oils, spinning mills that run ‘hand-to-mouth’ for raw materials in the cotton industry have been facing shortages, the country’s automobile sector has had major disruption to supply chains and sugar wholesalers are out of supplies and unable to meet demand.
