Indian Truck Strike From July 20
Truckers across India are due to go on a nationwide indefinite strike to protest against the ongoing increases in diesel prices, uncontrollable toll expenses, GST compliance and a number of further issues.
The strike is due to begin from 8am on July 20 and if it continues is expedited to heavily impact supply chains around the country.
The notice to strike was given two months ago, but the Indian government is yet to meet demands. This has led to truckers continuing with their plan of action according to transport union leaders.
Diesel prices are considered to be the main bone of contention, which coincides with the strikes we reported recently in both Brazil and China. The apparent global issue is that oil price rises are being absorbed by truckers unable to recover the increased costs due to contract commitments.
While at the time of writing we have not witnessed the start of this action, Uniserve are monitoring the situation closely and ask that any clients with concerns should contact their local Uniserve representative.
