Bangladesh Security Ban Lifted

Feb 20, 2018 | News

The UK government has withdrawn the ban on Dhaka-London direct air cargo, which had been imposed due to poor security at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The announcement was made recently at a press conference jointly organised by the UK High Commission in Dhaka and Bangladesh’s civil aviation ministry. Bangladesh Foreign Minister – AH Mahmood Ali – made it clear that the UK will lift the ban “very soon”, following a visit by British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs – Boris Johnson.

The ban was placed following some major security concerns almost two years ago, and since then Bangladesh’s air cargo has been screened at a third country before entering the UK, incurring additional costs.

We understand that the UK’s Department of Transport have now confirmed that the standard of cargo security in Dhaka has reached a level where the rescreening of cargo is no longer necessary.

The news will be welcomed by Bangladesh’s apparel manufacturers and by Uniserve Group airfreight customers. For further information please do not hesitate to contact your local Uniserve representative.
