Bath Rugby – Season So Far

European Champions Cup
Last weekend saw a great victory at Bath’s ‘Recreation Ground’ (The Rec) in the European Champions Cup Pool stage. Bath beat Toulon (Champions for three of the last five years) in a narrow 26-21 victory, which avenged the previous week’s last minute defeat in Toulon. The moment after the first try is pictured above, which was scored by Bath prop Beno Obano.
Bath now sit at the top of a very tight pool group, aiming to progress into the Quarter Finals of Europe’s most prestigious club competition. The next game against Welsh outfit – The Scarlets – on the weekend of 12th/14th January at The Rec will be crucial. Only the five pool winners are guaranteed a last eight spot, with the best three second placed teams also progressing.
Bath Rugby’s hospitality is legendary, and the weekend’s game was no exception, as our friend and partner from Arcadia Group – Chris Davey – found out. Chris, along with son Matthew, attended the game and both were invited to meet the players after their excellent victory, being pictured below with England prospect and back-row forward – Tom Ellis.

It has been a decent first half of the season on the domestic front too. Bath currently sit in fourth place in the English premiership table, after winning six of their first ten matches. The most notable performance of the season so far was undoubtedly the 31-21 defeat of European Champions Saracens back in September.
There are still another 12 matches to be played, including a one off league game being played at Twickenham versus Leicester Tigers in April. Hopefully the team can maintain, or even improve upon, their current position, as fourth place (and above) means a play off semi final spot in the race for the Championship. A top six place would also mean automatic qualification for next years Champions Cup.
Next up is a tricky away tie at 9th placed Sale Sharks this Saturday.

We are very much hoping for, and looking forward to, a successful second half of the season!
