POWERING FELIXSTOWE MEGA DISTRIBUTION CENTRE WITH SOLAR BRILLIANCE
As we continue to work towards Net Zero emissions by 2050, we’ve taking significant steps towards sustainability with the large scale solar panel installation at our 750,000 sq ft Felixstowe Mega Distribution Centre (FMDC).
The installation project includes 6,180 photovoltaic panels strategically positioned across our FMDC’s vast rooftop. These panels, along with 18 inverters, ensure maximum year-round yield and deliver an impressive peak output of clean, renewable energy.
The solar installation now covers 26% of the FMDC’s annual electricity demand, significantly reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources. The system generates over 2,500 MW of sustainable energy, with 86% of this energy consumed on-site, meeting the facility’s operational needs.
A complex Distribution Network Operator (DNO) setup was required to meet the 200kWp export limitation. This involved complying with the new G100/2 regulations and installing approximately 600 metres of fibre optic data cable to meter live demand at the transformer.
