Liverpool Dock Workers Begin Two-Week Strike Action Over Dispute With Pay

Liverpool dock workers began their two-week strike action over a dispute with pay on 19th September 2022, following suit with workers at the Port of Felixstowe.
Felixstowe dock workers are now carrying out a second wave of strike action from the 27th September 2022, which will last for eight days until 5th October, as Unite and Hutchison Ports are still unable to reach a mutual agreement over pay.
Liverpool’s Unite members will strike until October 3rd 2022, after rejecting Peel Ports Groups offer of an 8.3% rise and a one off payment of £750.
David Huck, the port’s chief operating officer, was quoted as saying: “I am deeply disappointed Unite has rejected our significant pay package after many months of negotiation.
“This is bad news for our employees, families and other local employers.
“We fully recognise our colleagues’ concerns on the cost of living crisis, and that’s why we have responded with a pay package that represents a 10% average increase in annual pay.”
Last year Liverpool Docks handled and distributed approximately 525,000 containers all over the globe.
Both Liverpool and Felixstowe ports striking means supply chains will be facing further disruptions coming into their busiest times leading up to Christmas, with vessels being rerouted where possible.
Here at Uniserve, we are committed to keeping your supply chains moving, which is why we have many contingency options in place to keep disruptions to a minimum.
