India Impacted By Airspace Closure

Mar 12, 2019 | News

Further to last week’s closure of Pakistan airspace due to rising political tension between India and Pakistan, we are now witnessing ongoing challenges moving air freight from the area, in particular the Northern India.

While the crisis has downscaled on the Kashmir border, Pakistan continues to restrict access to its air space, which is creating both passenger and cargo restrictions.

A number of freighter operators have given advanced warning of cancelled flights for the coming days, while passenger airlines are having to carry more fuel to facilitate longer routings, resulting in cargo payload restrictions.

The inevitable outcome of removing this capacity from the market is some delay in uplift, along with increased carrier pricing.

Our Regional General Management (RGM) team for the Indian Sub- continent continue to work to minimise the impact to our customers and will keep any parties impacted by the situation up to date of progress.
