Far East Weather Affects Logistics

Sep 7, 2018 | News

Adverse weather in the Far East is continuing to have an impact on logistics from the region due to port closures and localised devastation.

Ningbo and Shanghai have both had periods when scheduled vessels have omitted calling the ports altogether and the recent typhoon in Japan has resulted in port and airport closures. Disruption to vessel port rotations have resulted in congestion and ongoing vessel capacity management problems during the traditional peak season period.

The current Far East issues will be unwelcome news for ocean freight services through the UK, with the main ports of Felixstowe and Southampton already having difficulties. Both ports are currently experiencing disruption due to vessel’s calling late, being delayed on quay, omitting the ports completely, vessels cutting and running (leaving port before all containers are discharged) and inconsistent schedule patterns.  This, combined with a strain on container transport availability, has been resulting in longer turn-around times for deliveries in the UK.

Uniserve are monitoring the situation closely through our regional teams, if you require further information then please contact your local Uniserve representative.
