£2.1bn Extra Funding For No Deal Brexit

Aug 7, 2019 | Brexit

The government announced last week that an extra £2.1bn has been set aside in preparation for a no-deal Brexit, which doubles the amount of funding allocated.

The money includes plans for more border force officers and upgraded infrastructure at ports, and there will also be funding to ease traffic congestion, potentially caused by border delays, on routes between Dover and the rest of the UK.

Chancellor Sajid Javid commented when announcing the plans  “it is vital that we intensify our planning to ensure we are ready. We want to get a good deal that abolishes the anti-democratic backstop. But if we can’t get a good deal, we’ll have to leave without one. This additional £2.1bn will ensure we are ready to leave on 31 October – deal or no-deal.

Cabinet Minister Michael Gove has indicated this week that the EU seem to be refusing to negotiate with the UK over a new Brexit deal, which appears to make the no deal scenario ever more likely.

Meanwhile, Uniserve Group Board Director – Terry Clear – continues to work with Government, HMRC and Border Delivery in the Southern Road Corridor Working Group to ensure that whatever the Brexit outcome, plans will be in place for the short sea straits.
